지난 시간에는 한글의 기본 자음 14개를 배웠습니다.
In Lesson 2, we learned the 14 basic Korean consonants.

 

이번에는 자음과 함께 음절을 만드는 기본 모음 10개를 배워보겠습니다.
This time, we will learn the 10 basic Korean vowels that combine with consonants to form syllables.

ㅏ — 아 | a

ㅑ — 야 | ya

ㅓ — 어 | eo

ㅗ — 오 | o

ㅛ — 요 | yo

ㅜ — 우 | u

ㅠ — 유 | yu

ㅡ — 으 | eu

ㅣ — 이 | i

💡 주의 | Note
영어 알파벳 표기는 한국어 발음을 이해하기 위한 참고일 뿐입니다. 특히 ㅓ와 ㅡ는 영어에 정확히 같은 소리가 없습니다.
English letters are only pronunciation guides. In particular, ㅓ and ㅡ do not have exact English equivalents.

ㅏ → ㅑ

획이 하나 더 생기면 아 → 야로 소리가 달라집니다.
Adding one short stroke changes the sound from a to ya.

ㅓ → ㅕ

어 → 여처럼 소리가 달라집니다.
The sound changes from eo to yeo.

ㅗ → ㅛ

오 → 요로 달라집니다.
The sound changes from o to yo.

ㅜ → ㅠ

우 → 유로 달라집니다.
The sound changes from u to yu.

지난 시간에 ㅇ은 음절 처음에 오면 소리가 나지 않는다고 배웠습니다.

We learned that ㅇ is silent when it appears at the beginning of a syllable.

그래서 모음의 소리를 읽을 때 ㅇ과 모음을 결합합니다.

ㅇ + ㅏ = 아
ㅇ + ㅑ = 야
ㅇ + ㅓ = 어
ㅇ + ㅕ = 여
ㅇ + ㅗ = 오
ㅇ + ㅛ = 요

모음의 모양에 따라 자음의 오른쪽이나 아래에 놓입니다.

Depending on the shape of the vowel, it is placed either to the right of the consonant or below it.

기본 모음만으로도 벌써 읽을 수 있는 한국어 단어가 있습니다.

You can already read some Korean words using these basic vowels.

아이 — child

오이 — cucumber

우유 — milk

이유 — reason

아직 모든 단어의 뜻을 외울 필요는 없습니다. 지금은 한글을 보고 소리 내어 읽는 연습이 중요합니다.
You do not need to memorize every meaning yet. For now, focus on reading Hangeul aloud.
